Philosophy Referee Signals

Ok, I love it when I can combine my passion for discussing philosophy with my interest in sports. Check out these philosophy referee signals:

I think I’ll enjoy this most during public debates – I can just see my friends and me gesturing wildly from the back of the auditorium.

Can you think of other signals that would be useful?

“Can you think of other signals that would be useful?”

Yes, but they are not to be used in polite society.

These would have been useful at some of the presentations I saw when I went with a bunch of skeptics to the Whole Life Expo in Toronto back in November. When confronted, we could have just said we were doing Platonist yoga or some such. 🙂 They’d probably also be useful When Dr. Novella is on Mehmet Oz’s show on Tuesday.

There ought to be a signal for Ad Hominem Attack. And also a specialized signal to invoke Godwin’s Law.
